Vice President, Philanthropic Advising

Accountabilities:: Provide strategic day-to-day leadership for the Philanthropic Advising department, creating a cohesive, connected, high-performing, and supportive team environment. Build department culture, operating structures, processes, and resources that encourage collaboration, learning, shared accountability, and effective delivery. Directly supervise and develop team members, including senior professionals, through coaching, feedback, mentorship, and professional growth opportunities. Serve as a trusted resource for team members navigating complex client relationships, project challenges, and strategic decisions. Guide staffing, resource allocation, and team structures to align client needs with organizational priorities and available capacity. Identify emerging needs and opportunities across the philanthropic landscape and help evolve advising approaches, processes, and capabilities accordingly. Partner with other senior leaders to coordinate priorities, staffing, culture, and operations across the broader philanthropy and nonprofit practice. Develop and advance a clear vision for the philanthropic advising practice while contributing to broader organizational strategy. Bring sophisticated knowledge of philanthropy, emerging trends, community needs, research, and effective approaches to client work. Foster shared learning and continuous improvement by keeping teams informed about developments, research, and promising practices in philanthropy. Contribute to thought leadership, speaking engagements, publications, and other external opportunities that strengthen the practice's visibility and expertise. Manage a select portfolio of philanthropic clients, building trusted relationships with individuals, families, foundations, and other institutions. Lead selected client engagements and provide strategic counsel on philanthropic strategy, program development, and opportunities for impact. Proactively identify client needs and opportunities, ensuring the appropriate internal expertise and resources are brought to each engagement. Develop relationships beyond individual engagements to strengthen long-term client partnerships and identify opportunities for deeper collaboration. Identify, cultivate, and develop relationships with prospective clients, philanthropic institutions, community leaders, and referral partners. Contribute to business growth by developing and advancing a strong pipeline of prospective engagements. Partner with business development and senior leadership teams to pursue opportunities, develop proposals, and lead prospective client conversations. Identify emerging needs in philanthropy and help translate them into new services, partnerships, products, or areas of expertise. Represent the organization externally through professional networks, industry convenings, speaking opportunities, and other relationship-building activities. Requirements: 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in philanthropy, including significant experience in a senior leadership position. Demonstrated success leading and developing high-performing teams, including experience managing senior-level professionals. Significant experience advising philanthropists, family foundations, and other philanthropic institutions on complex strategic questions. Strong relationship-building, interpersonal, communication, and client management skills. Experience contributing to or leading business development initiatives, including relationship cultivation, proposal development, and converting opportunities into engagements. Strong understanding of the philanthropic landscape and the ability to translate emerging trends, research, and ideas into practical guidance for clients and colleagues. Strong operational and financial acumen, including experience with budgets, staffing, and resource allocation. Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on involvement in client engagements and organizational priorities. Demonstrated commitment to social impact and alignment with a mission-driven, collaborative approach to work. Strong judgment, adaptability, curiosity, and the ability to navigate complex and evolving environments. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred; an advanced degree or relevant professional certifications is a plus. Benefits: Base salary of $260,000 annually, depending on experience and skills.
