Mid-Level Grid Interconnection Consultant

Accountabilities: Prepare generator interconnection applications, including conceptual single-line diagrams, reactive power compliance verification, and steady-state, dynamic, and short-circuit models. Review ISO feasibility and system impact studies and provide technical guidance to clients participating in interconnection processes. Perform independent power system studies, including thermal and voltage contingency, transient stability, and short-circuit analyses. Conduct advanced grid studies to evaluate specific operating scenarios and potential impacts associated with conventional and renewable generation projects. Model inverter-based resources and renewable technologies, including wind turbine generators, photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage systems, and hybrid generation resources. Develop and analyze collector system models and other technical inputs required for interconnection applications. Use transmission planning and power system analysis software to support load-flow, contingency, dynamic, and other advanced studies. Prepare clear technical reports, proposals, analyses, and recommendations for clients and project stakeholders. Collaborate with colleagues and provide technical guidance to other team members when appropriate. Support project planning, coordination, and execution while maintaining technical quality and project objectives. Apply emerging technologies, automation, data tools, and AI-enabled solutions where appropriate to improve research, analysis, engineering, and workflow efficiency while maintaining professional oversight. Requirements Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, with a strong academic background and coursework focused on power systems analysis. At least 3 years of previous power systems engineering experience. Knowledge of major U.S. power regions and ISOs/RTOs, such as PJM, MISO, NYISO, ERCOT, SPP, CAISO, and ISO-NE. Experience modeling inverter-based and renewable resources such as wind turbine generators, photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage systems, and hybrid generation. Experience with PSS/E, PSLF, and/or PSCAD for interconnection modeling and analysis. Experience using transmission planning software, particularly PSS/E, PSLF, and TARA, for load-flow modeling and contingency studies. Experience with dynamic, transient stability, or other advanced studies using tools such as TSAT, EMTP-RV, or PSCAD is a plus. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings clearly. Experience preparing technical reports and proposals. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with and guide others. Project planning and leadership capabilities. Interest in learning and effectively applying emerging technologies, automation, programming, or AI tools where relevant. Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
