Associate Director, Safety

Accountabilities:: Lead, coach, and develop a team of four Regional Safety Managers located across the United States. Establish consistency and accountability across regional safety programs, reporting practices, expectations, and execution. Partner with operational and business leaders to embed safety into project planning, field operations, and day-to-day decision-making. Help evolve the organization's safety strategy and identify opportunities to strengthen policies, programs, processes, and practices. Maintain direct safety oversight for a smaller geographic region while focusing primarily on leadership, coordination, and alignment across the Regional Safety Manager team. Oversee incident investigations, root-cause analyses, corrective actions, and follow-through managed by Regional Safety Managers. Review safety observations, near misses, incidents, audits, and leading and lagging performance indicators to identify trends and improvement opportunities. Support risk assessments, job hazard analyses, audits, inspections, and other proactive safety initiatives. Help develop, communicate, and implement safety training, policies, expectations, and programs across the organization. Maintain current knowledge of OSHA requirements and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations. Regularly visit field operations and Regional Safety Managers nationwide to maintain strong relationships with teams and understand field conditions firsthand. Communicate safety performance, risks, priorities, and improvement opportunities clearly to field employees, project teams, operational leaders, and senior leadership. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related technical field; a safety-focused degree is strongly preferred. 5–10 years of progressive professional safety experience, with 7–10 years preferred. Previous safety leadership experience at a manager, senior manager, or comparable level. Experience supporting safety operations across multiple sites and more than one state. Strong hands-on field safety experience. Experience in utilities, electric transmission and distribution, power generation, utility construction, infrastructure construction, or a closely related environment is strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, or providing oversight to other safety professionals. Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and safety compliance practices. Experience with incident investigations, root-cause analysis, audits, inspections, risk assessments, and corrective actions. Familiarity with safety performance metrics, including leading and lagging indicators. Professional safety certification such as CSP, ASP, or CHST is strongly preferred. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with field employees, project teams, operational leaders, and senior executives. Strong leadership, accountability, organization, judgment, and relationship-building skills. Ability to balance strategic safety leadership with practical field-level problem solving. Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50–75%, including frequent overnight travel. A valid driver's license and ability to travel by road and air as required.
