Role Definition: Design, development and testing of electronic control modules (ECM/ECU) for use within machines and engine systems. Responsibilities: • Overseeing compliance with functional & environmental requirements, development processes, and regulations for ECM/ECUs. • Development of product requirements, analysis and simulation, electronic component selection, schematic/layout review, and platform verification and validation. • Collaboration with various levels of software as well as machine and engine systems teams to ensure the platform integrates into multiple applications. • Managing and negotiating with ECM/ECU vendors for the development of systems and components. • Investigating and troubleshooting all technical issues related to ECM/ECUs during development and through the production lifecycle. • Mentoring technicians and engineers in the development of electrical and electronic systems and components • Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Electrical, Electronics curriculum. Degree Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in engineering from Tier 1 College and University. Master’s degree in Engineering will be a plus. Level Working Knowledge: • Provides input for Gantt or PERT charts or their equivalent to track project progress and status. • Under guidance, plans and estimates simple projects. • Assists in detailed project plans including cost, schedule, and resource requirements. • Obtains information from stakeholders during the planning stage of a project. • Produces standard project status reports. Electronics Engineering - HTH: Knowledge of electronics engineering; ability to design, test and manufacture electronic circuits, components and devices. Level Extensive Experience: • Trains others on designing complex integrated circuits. • Anticipates the challenges and opportunities associated with creating printed circuit boards. • Interprets alternative interfaces between hardware and software and associated requirements and considerations. • Advises on matching methodology, materials and tools to the electronic product that is being built. • Consults on engineering multiple electronic circuits, components or devices. • Evaluates the benefits and drawbacks of analog and digital circuits. Product Design - HTH: Knowledge of and the ability to utilize design tools (e.g. CAD) to convert customer and market requirements into a product design. Level Extensive Experience: • Monitors each phase of the design procedure to ensure overall operation meets standards. • Trains others on major processes of product design; directs the conception of each component. • Advises others on the development of multiple products and their architectures. • Delivers improvement plans to senior management and compares the outcome of the design against the architecture. • Evaluates feedback from customers and consults on functional weaknesses. • Controls design and development costs of a proposed product through effective resource coordination. Reliability Management - HTH: Knowledge of reliability management; ability to utilize various tools, techniques, methodologies and metrics to meet and manage hardware product performance and reliability objectives. Level Working Knowledge: • Selects appropriate tools and methods to ensure reliability expectations in hardware products. • Participates in product reliability and quality assurance standard processes to meet process demands. • Conducts performance and reliability testing for a specific hardware product or product group. • Implements reliability activities and tasks for product development and maintenance plans. • Analyzes common hardware reliability failures; provides corrective action plans. Mechanical Engineering - MFG: Knowledge of mechanical engineering processes, techniques and methods; ability to design and implement machines and other mechanical devices that safely realize a desired objective or invention. Level Working Knowledge: • Works with basic, routine components of the mechanical engineering discipline in manufacturing. • Performs basic installation, testing, maintenance and repairs for machines, engines and other equipment. • Uses software to draft drawings or writes specifications for specific mechanical engineering projects. • Assists senior staff to resolve unusual mechanical problems; recommends ideas. • Follows relevant standards, policies and practices in mechanical engineering operations; reports violations. Supplier Management - MFG: Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice. Level Working Knowledge: • Follows procedures in carrying out routine supplier management tasks. • Uses electronic systems or tools to record/retrieve supplier information and carry out transactions with suppliers. • Resolves routine supplier issues; escalates non-routine issues up chain of command. • Researches alternative vendors or suppliers; participates in supplier selection. • Works with suppliers to ensure that purchases meet delivery date and quality specifications.
