The Role: The Safety Operations Lead plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of employees at the Ultium Cells 1 complex. Introduction to Ultium Cells Ultium Cells LLC is a joint venture (JV) between General Motors and LG Energy Solutions, combining manufacturing and electrochemical expertise to create battery cells that will power GMs electric vehicles. About the Opportunity: The Safety Supervisor is responsible for leading and managing a team of salaried and contract safety professionals, as well as managing the on-site medical department. The Safety Supervisor is responsible for analyzing and identifying strategies for the site that align with GM Global Workplace Safety strategies including but not limited to: Key Responsibilities: Team Management: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Safety professionals, fostering a culture of safety and compliance throughout the Spring Hill Assembly complex. Strategy Development: Analyze, create, and implement comprehensive safety strategies that align with company goals and regulatory requirements, tailored to the diverse operations at the site. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate effectively across all levels of the site, including electric vehicle assembly, battery production, stamping, injection molding, body metal fabrication, paint shop, facilities, and logistics. Engage resources and lead initiatives to enhance safety practices. Union Partnership: Work closely with UAW safety partners to ensure safety protocols are adhered to and foster positive relationships within the union environment. Communication & Relationship Building: Utilize strong communication and interpersonal skills to influence and drive acceptance of new safety concepts, practices, and approaches within the organization. Build and maintain positive relationships with staff members. Proactive Problem Solving: Identify potential safety risks and react promptly by engaging the appropriate resources to initiate problem-solving measures. Ensure a proactive approach to safety management. Continuous Improvement: Promote and lead continuous improvement efforts in safety and industrial hygiene processes, ensuring they are effective and up-to-date with industry standards. Corporate Safety Initiatives: Execute corporate safety requirements, action items, and initiatives to ensure alignment with company-wide safety objectives. Safety Management System: Support adoption and implementation of the Global Workplace Safety System Drive the development of Ultium Cells specific safety and health standards Deliver annual Ultium Cells facility health and safety goals and objectives to the workforce Learning and Development: Support Manufacturing Learning and Development in the identification and facilitation of the Training Management System and the affective launch of site-specific health and safety training. Support delivering New Hire and Contractor Orientations Ensure effective auditing, observations, and reporting of compliance with safety standards and procedures. Emergency Response: Participate in the plant’s Emergency Response Planning Process Other: Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies as needed Communicate and work effectively with operations, construction, plant floor teams Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)​​ Bachelor's Degree in safety or other related degree. 5+ years of safety related experience. What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other professional certification Prior experience in a leadership level role Experience in Industrial Hygiene Air Sampling Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) Experience with Combustible Dust Ability to lead teams and influence change Bilingual (Korean/English Speaking) This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.
