Home Lending Underwriting Supervisor – Assumptions

As an Underwriting Supervisor within Home Lending Assumption Group, you will lead and manage a team of Mortgage Underwriters responsible for analyzing underwriting files for Capacity, Capital, Character, Collateral, and Condition. You will oversee daily operations, manage workflow and inventory distribution, monitor quality outcomes, and ensure compliance with investor guidelines and regulatory requirements. This role requires strong leadership skills to drive team performance while maintaining the highest standards of underwriting excellence and customer service. You will be accountable for team productivity metrics, quality scores, and timely resolution of audit findings. Additionally, you will serve as a key liaison between senior management and the underwriting team, providing strategic insights and operational updates. You are also responsible for leading a team of Mortgage Underwriters while ensuring optimal team performance, inventory management, quality control, and regulatory compliance through effective oversight and coaching. Job responsibilities Lead, coach, and develop a team of Mortgage Underwriters to achieve individual and team performance goals and conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and provide ongoing feedback and coaching as well as monitor individual and team productivity metrics, quality scores, and customer satisfaction ratings Identify performance gaps and implement corrective action plans when necessary Foster a collaborative team environment that promotes professional growth and knowledge sharing Oversee daily inventory distribution and prioritization to ensure timely loan processing Monitor aging reports and implement strategies to reduce cycle times and meet service level agreements Review and approve underwriting decisions that exceed team member authority levels and conduct quality reviews of completed loan files to ensure adherence to investor guidelines and company policies along with monitoring quality metrics and implement improvement plans to address deficiencies Lead responses to internal and external audit findings related to underwriting decisions and coordinate with Risk Management, Compliance, and Quality Assurance teams on audit-related matters Develop and implement corrective action plans to address audit findings and ensure timely completion of audit responses and follow-up requirements Participate in management meetings and provide operational insights and recommendations and collaborate with senior leadership on strategic planning and goal setting Contribute to process improvement initiatives and policy development Support training and onboarding of new team members Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills Minimum 5 years of mortgage underwriting experience with 2 + years in a supervisory or team lead capacity HUD Direct Endorsement (DE) and VA credit certifications Comprehensive expertise in Conventional, Government, Agency, and Jumbo loan guidelines Proven track record of managing team performance and achieving productivity targets Strong leadership and people management skills with experience coaching and developing staff Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities for complex underwriting scenarios Outstanding written and verbal communication skills for audit responses and stakeholder communication Proficiency in mortgage origination systems and reporting tools Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment This is a remote; work from home (WFH) position.
