Mid-Level HVAC Mechanical Engineer- Buildings

This Opportunity WSP is seeking a Mid Level HVAC Mechanical Engineer to join our Property & Buildings team in Hamilton, NJ. This role is ideal for an early-career to mid-level engineer with experience in HVAC and building systems design who is looking to expand their technical expertise and contribute to a variety of building and infrastructure projects. Working under the guidance of Senior Engineers and Project Managers, you will support the design, analysis, and construction of mechanical systems for new and existing facilities. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while continuing to develop your technical and project coordination skills. Your Impact Support the design and development of HVAC and mechanical systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, industrial, and other building projects. Perform heating and cooling load calculations and assist with equipment sizing and selection, including air handling units, pumps, boilers, chillers, and fans. Prepare mechanical design drawings, specifications, reports, and other project documentation. Assist with developing construction documents while adhering to WSP's QA/QC standards. Conduct field investigations and site visits to evaluate existing conditions and gather information for project designs. Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and other disciplines throughout project development. Participate in project meetings with clients, owners, contractors, and internal project teams. Support the preparation of cost estimates, schedules, and technical studies. Review mechanical system designs for compliance with applicable building codes, industry standards, and client requirements. Assist with construction administration activities, including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and performing site observations. Analyze engineering data and provide recommendations to support project objectives. Stay current with industry trends, building codes, and emerging mechanical engineering technologies. Perform additional responsibilities as required to support project and business needs. Who You Are Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program. 3 to 5 years of experience in HVAC and mechanical systems design, preferably within a consulting engineering environment. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred; ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in the future. Working knowledge of mechanical building systems, design principles, and applicable building codes. Experience performing HVAC load calculations and equipment selection. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, or related design software. Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Engineering. 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred. Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired. Compensation: Expected Salary (all locations): $94,000- 120,000 WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
