Sr. Engineer, TSE-SIG, Mechanical

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Systems Integration Group (SIG) , you will lead the design, development, validation, and support of advanced semiconductor manufacturing and test equipment. You will be responsible for mechanical system architecture, structural design, thermal solutions, manufacturability, reliability, and lifecycle support of SIG products. Working within a multidisciplinary global engineering team, you will collaborate closely with electrical, embedded software, controls, applications, manufacturing, procurement, technicians, and external suppliers to deliver innovative equipment solutions that enable Micron's next-generation memory technologies. The role requires strong technical ownership, project leadership, mentoring of junior engineers, and driving continuous improvement across design processes and product development methodologies. Key Responsibilities Product Development & Design Design and develop mechanical assemblies, frameworks, fixtures, and subsystems for semiconductor test and manufacturing equipment. Create 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation. Perform mechanical analysis including stress, vibration, thermal, airflow, and tolerance studies. Develop concepts from requirements through prototype, validation, release, and sustaining support. Evaluate and select materials, manufacturing processes, and supplier solutions. Engineering Execution Drive mechanical design reviews and ensure compliance with engineering standards. Support prototype builds, debug activities, qualification testing, and deployment. Analyze failures, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions. Collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturers during fabrication and assembly. Manage engineering change processes and controlled documentation. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with Electrical, Controls, Embedded Software, Applications, and Reliability teams to deliver integrated system solutions. Participate in system architecture reviews and technology evaluations. Support manufacturing, service, and field teams in issue resolution and continuous improvement efforts. Technical Leadership Lead complex mechanical projects with minimal supervision. Mentor and guide junior mechanical engineers. Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, modularity, and cost reduction. Drive innovation through new technologies, disclosures, patents, and best-known-method development. Integrate AI-assisted tools and insights into daily work to improve efficiency, quality, and effectiveness while exercising sound judgment and complying with organizational standards and legal requirements. Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, testing, and sharing AI-enabled enhancements within the scope of work. Required Qualifications BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline. 6+ years of experience in mechanical design and product development. Strong proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or equivalent. Experience with mechanical design for electro-mechanical systems. Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and manufacturing processes. Experience supporting prototype build, test, and qualification activities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Semiconductor equipment or automated test equipment experience. Experience with sheet metal, machined parts, weldments, castings, and plastics. Exposure to thermal management and airflow design. Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA). Familiarity with automation systems, robotics, motion control, and mechatronics. Experience with reliability methodologies such as FMEA and root-cause analysis. Familiarity with Python or similar scripting languages for engineering automation. Experience working with global engineering teams and external suppliers. E3/E4 Framework Alignment Independence Works independently with guidance primarily from project objectives. Acts as a subject matter expert in mechanical engineering. Contribution Leads complex technical projects and major design initiatives. Drives engineering decisions, innovation efforts, and process improvements. Guides engineers on technical approaches and execution. Impact Decisions influence project success, equipment reliability, product cost, and development schedules.
