Senior Data Center Technician – Fiber

Accountabilities: Install, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and remediate fiber-optic and copper cabling across data center environments. Perform rack-and-stack activities, including installation and organization of servers, switches, storage equipment, patch panels, cable managers, support hardware, and related infrastructure. Route, dress, label, connect, inspect, and protect copper and fiber-optic cables while verifying source, destination, port assignments, connector types, routing, slack, and bend radius. Install management and console cables, power cords, interconnects, optics, transceivers, and other physical infrastructure components. Follow cable schedules, rack elevations, port maps, technical drawings, project standards, and runbooks with increasing independence after project onboarding. Perform cabling remediation, cabinet cleanup, defect correction, rework, and punch-list activities while maintaining high standards of workmanship. Provide smart-hands support to remote engineers and technical teams, including physical verification, connection changes, equipment replacement, and information capture. Replace damaged cables, labels, optics, hardware, and field-replaceable components as directed. Capture and maintain accurate installation records, including serial numbers, asset tags, MAC addresses, photographs, completion evidence, and issue notes. Update project trackers, checklists, issue logs, redline documentation, and timekeeping systems accurately and on schedule. Inspect completed work for visible defects and resolve or escalate issues before quality review and project closeout. Report blockers, missing materials, damaged equipment, drawing conflicts, site issues, security concerns, and safety risks promptly. Maintain clean cabinets, pathways, staging areas, workstations, and project zones while protecting customer equipment and facilities. Communicate professionally with field leads, superintendents, customers, subcontractors, engineers, and other project stakeholders. Complete required security awareness training and follow applicable operational, safety, security, and site-access procedures. Support other field, installation, remediation, and infrastructure activities as assigned. Requirements 2+ years of experience in data center operations, telecommunications, low-voltage installation, structured cabling, network deployment, or a related field. Hands-on experience installing and working with both copper and fiber-optic cabling. Experience mounting and installing servers, switches, storage equipment, patch panels, cable managers, and other equipment within data center cabinets. Ability to accurately interpret cable labels, rack elevations, port maps, basic drawings, cable schedules, and technical runbooks. Strong attention to detail, workmanship, documentation, cleanliness, and workplace safety. Ability to independently execute assigned work while collaborating effectively with a traveling field team. Strong troubleshooting and remediation skills, with the ability to identify defects and complete corrective work efficiently. Ability to accurately document completed work through photographs, serial numbers, asset information, issue notes, and project closeout records. Valid driver's license and ability to satisfy applicable background, drug, safety, security, and site-access screening requirements. Willingness and ability to travel approximately 75%–90% nationwide, including frequent overnight and extended assignments. Flexibility to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, deployment windows, and 10–12-hour shifts as project requirements dictate. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and participate in heavier team lifts. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and regularly bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb ladders, and work inside equipment cabinets. Ability to perform repetitive cable installation, dressing, labeling, equipment installation, and remediation tasks. Ability to work safely in active construction and operational data center environments while using required personal protective equipment. Salary range of $83,200–$99,840 USD for positions based in New York City, plus potential bonus and/or commission opportunities; compensation in other locations may vary.
