Senior Counsel

Accountabilities: Advise product, engineering, and trust & safety teams on regulatory and industry requirements related to content safety, consumer protection, intellectual property, privacy, and data security. Provide practical product counseling across web hosting, site creation, content publishing, ecommerce, social media, and other digital products, keeping customer needs and business objectives at the center of your analysis. Provide subject matter expertise on data protection and privacy frameworks, including GDPR and CCPA, as well as consent requirements for digital marketing and advertising. Develop scalable processes and workflows for documenting and maintaining regulatory and privacy compliance. Monitor emerging and upcoming regulations and help the organization prepare for changes in applicable requirements worldwide. Participate in relevant industry groups and represent the organization in discussions with regulators, government agencies, and officials. Work closely with trust & safety teams to develop and oversee policies that support freedom of expression and user safety while meeting legal obligations. Help the legal function scale effectively as regulatory, privacy, and compliance requirements continue to grow. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify legal risks, develop practical solutions, and support timely product launches. Requirements: JD from a US-accredited law school with 5+ years of relevant legal experience, or an exception for an EU-based attorney. Strong familiarity with legal and regulatory issues affecting open source, user-generated content, web hosting, social media, ecommerce, digital advertising, and related technology business models. Experience advising on product, privacy, regulatory, or online safety matters in complex and evolving legal environments. Familiarity with regulations such as the Digital Services Act (DSA), UK and Australian Online Safety Acts, EU AI Act, GDPR, CCPA, or worldwide age-assurance requirements is highly valued. Ability to provide clear, actionable, business-oriented legal advice that enables teams to make decisions and move products forward. Comfortable working through ambiguity and making well-reasoned recommendations when information is incomplete or requirements are still evolving. Strong collaboration skills, combined with the ability to work independently and effectively in an asynchronous environment. Humble, adaptable, and willing to expand into new areas of legal work, including litigation or intellectual property matters when required. Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to make complex legal and regulatory topics accessible to non-legal stakeholders. Benefits: Salary range of $180,000–$300,000 USD, with compensation paid in local currency depending on location.
