Online Adjunct Professor - Human & Social Services

Accountabilities:: Prepare assigned online courses in Blackboard and ensure all required course elements are completed by established deadlines. Provide approximately 12–14 hours of instructional activity per week, per course, across five days, including discussion facilitation, grading, student communication, email, and retention outreach. Respond to students, supervisors, and colleagues within 48 hours, including inquiries submitted through the course's instructor forum. Facilitate substantive online discussions through personalized responses, higher-order questioning, supplemental resources, and consistent engagement throughout each week. Apply the Seven Principles for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education, including active learning, prompt feedback, high expectations, meaningful faculty-student interaction, and respect for diverse learning styles. Maintain accurate and timely grade books, evaluate student work against established rubrics, provide individualized feedback, process late submissions, and meet final grading deadlines. Monitor students who may be at risk academically, conduct appropriate outreach, communicate with relevant advisors, and document retention efforts. Incorporate active learning strategies, authentic assessment, APA standards, academic integrity practices, and appropriate use of electronic portfolios into instruction. Apply online teaching best practices, Bloom’s Taxonomy, course rigor standards, and discipline-specific knowledge to create an effective virtual learning experience. Follow all approved student accommodations and encourage participation in course and faculty evaluation surveys. Participate in required live and asynchronous faculty meetings, professional development activities, workshops, seminars, and campus-wide initiatives supporting student retention and graduation. Maintain current knowledge of the teaching discipline and distance education practices and provide required professional development documentation. Collaborate with full-time faculty and academic leadership to identify opportunities for course improvement and enhance classroom performance. Support course development and curriculum improvement by contributing subject-matter expertise, identifying errors or updates, and helping maintain contemporary course content. Maintain required technology and equipment for online instruction and comply with applicable institutional, state, federal, accreditation, and academic policies. Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, self-motivation, adaptability, creativity, ethical judgment, and a strong commitment to student success. Requirements Master’s degree required; a PhD is preferred. Candidates for the Human & Social Services program must have a Master’s degree in Social Work or Human Services. At least 2 years of online teaching experience is required for the Human & Social Services program. Three years of college-level education experience within the last ten years is identified as a qualification, with relevant expertise in the areas taught. Demonstrated expertise in the applicable teaching discipline and the ability to maintain current professional and academic knowledge. Experience with educational theory, active learning, authentic assessment, online instruction, and student-centered teaching practices. Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, conflict-resolution, adaptability, creativity, and sensitivity to diverse student needs. Strong willingness to self-assess, receive feedback, and incorporate feedback into teaching practice. Documented management experience within an educational environment and strong administrative, evaluative, analytical, strategic-thinking, and organizational capabilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong presentation and mentoring abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, internet applications, Blackboard, and other technologies required for online education. Ability to work collaboratively within established institutional policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements. Reliable self-starter with strong attention to detail, professionalism, dedication, and the ability to work independently in a virtual environment. Ability to meet the technology requirements necessary to facilitate online courses. Successful completion of a 12-month probationary period is required following appointment. Benefits Compensation of $1,700–$2,000 per course , subject to factors such as degree level, professional licenses, certifications, organizational requirements, geography, and class enrollment.
