Life Claims Assessor

Accountabilities:: Review plan member and dependent coverage and confirm eligibility for submitted claims. Interpret and verify the contract provisions applicable to each claim. Validate enrolment details and beneficiary information before proceeding with claim decisions. Review proof-of-death documentation along with supporting medical, police, and investigative reports. Calculate eligible benefits accurately and ensure claim amounts are determined in accordance with applicable provisions. Prepare and maintain claims system records required to document and process payments. Communicate claim decisions clearly and professionally to claimants, beneficiaries, and group clients. Assist plan sponsors with questions regarding beneficiary appointments, enrolment information, and claim submission requirements. Support beneficiaries and family members in obtaining the documentation required to assess and process claims. Requirements Previous experience in the insurance industry, preferably in Group Benefits and Life or Disability claims. Knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to interpret insurance contract provisions. Strong analytical, organizational, communication, judgment, and decision-making skills. Demonstrated empathy and the ability to provide exceptional service when supporting individuals and families during sensitive situations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel. Ability to prioritize workload, manage deadlines, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Adaptability and risk awareness, with the ability to remain effective in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail and accuracy when reviewing documentation, calculating benefits, and maintaining records. Bilingual English/French capabilities are an asset; for successful candidates based in Québec, proficiency in both languages is required to support clients across provinces outside Québec.
