Lead Protection and Control Engineer

Accountabilities:: Design and deliver complex protection and control solutions for generation, transmission, distribution, utility, and industrial applications. Support the design and development of microgrid solutions, including power-flow optimization and dispatching algorithms. Perform engineering studies and power system analyses, including short-circuit, load-flow, ground-grid, lightning protection, insulation coordination, arc-flash, and protective-device coordination studies. Develop relay setting files covering protection and control elements, control logic, and communication settings for GE and third-party protective relays. Design, test, and validate customized protection and control solutions both in-house and at customer facilities. Model and simulate power systems using RTDS or equivalent real-time simulation platforms. Develop factory acceptance test plans and conduct testing to validate protection designs for customer review and approval. Plan and support site acceptance testing and field commissioning of new protection and control applications. Contribute to the development of software tools that automate engineering processes for internal teams and utility partners. Participate in project meetings with project managers and customers, providing technical expertise and addressing engineering requirements. Support technical proposals by identifying opportunities, developing statements of work, and estimating engineering effort for projects and customer engagements. Prepare technical documentation, reports, presentations, and engineering deliverables to a high professional standard. Maintain strong relationships with customers and project stakeholders while representing the organization professionally. Apply for permits and represent the organization as required to deliver engineering services. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline with a specialization in power systems. 7+ years of experience designing, studying, and analyzing electric power systems. Strong understanding of power system steady-state and transient analysis, fault studies, protection theory, and symmetrical components. Hands-on experience with power system study and engineering tools such as Mathcad, MATLAB, ASPEN, CAPE, SKM, CDEGS, WinIGS, or ETAP. Knowledge of substation communication protocols such as IEC 61850, DNP, and Modbus is preferred. Experience with system commissioning and testing, including Doble, Omicron, or comparable test equipment, is preferred. Experience with power system simulation using RTDS or an equivalent platform is a strong advantage. Strong technical writing and presentation skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to develop technical solutions, identify customer opportunities, and contribute to statements of work and engineering proposals. Experience estimating engineering effort for customer proposals and project execution. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, project managers, and technical teams. Customer-focused approach combined with sound technical judgment and professional business conduct. Ability to learn quickly, collaborate effectively, and contribute as a team-oriented engineer. Professional Engineering (PE) accreditation is not required but is considered an asset. Willingness and ability to obtain permits or authorizations necessary to perform engineering services where required. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Benefits: Annual base salary range of $98,400–$164,000 , with actual compensation influenced by experience, education, skills, and other relevant factors.
