Investment Associate

Accountabilities: Investment origination: Research markets, identify prospective investments across catalytic and thematic portfolios, and develop strong pipeline channels for high-quality opportunities. Investment diligence: Support financial, strategic, and impact-focused due diligence, synthesizing qualitative and quantitative information into clear insights and recommendations. Financial analysis: Conduct financial modeling, benchmarking, portfolio analysis, forecasting, trend analysis, and investment performance monitoring. Investment materials: Prepare screening documents, investment memoranda, analyses, dashboards, presentations, and other materials that support informed investment decisions. Investment strategy: Contribute to the broader investment strategy in collaboration with investment professionals, senior leadership, and board-level stakeholders. Portfolio management: Support portfolio monitoring, valuation, performance reporting, risk assessments, cash and investment reviews, and recurring portfolio analyses. Process improvement: Help design and continuously improve end-to-end investment processes, including pipeline management, diligence frameworks, valuation, monitoring, reporting, and scalable systems. Project and CRM management: Maintain project-management and CRM systems and help track key milestones, objectives, relationships, and activities across the mission-investing portfolio. Knowledge management: Develop and execute knowledge-management practices that connect investment activities and insights across teams and strengthen organizational learning. Internal partnership: Serve as a knowledgeable resource on impact investing, helping connect investment work with broader organizational priorities and initiatives. Thought leadership: Support knowledge sharing, learning, and thought leadership among investment partners and across the wider impact-investing ecosystem. Organizational support: Partner with investment leadership on department management and provide additional analytical, administrative, and project support as required. Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience; an MBA or relevant master’s degree is an asset. Investment experience: Professional experience in impact investing or an adjacent field such as venture capital, venture philanthropy, private equity, community development finance, fund investments, social enterprise development, investment banking, or private debt. Experience level: At least 2 years of relevant professional experience, with the original posting also indicating consideration of candidates with 1 year of experience where appropriate. Analytical ability: Strong analytical and data-management skills, with the ability to break down complex problems, evaluate strategic tradeoffs, identify patterns, and apply insights in a broader organizational context. Financial skills: Comfort interpreting financial statements, conducting portfolio analysis, building financial models, and presenting quantitative findings through clear summaries and visualizations. Project management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple workstreams, deliver high-quality outputs, prioritize effectively, and operate successfully in a dynamic environment. Technology proficiency: Strong command of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and OneDrive, as well as experience with CRM platforms such as Salesforce, Tableau, and Google Workspace. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt complex financial, quantitative, and qualitative information for different audiences. Stakeholder management: Strong interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, flexibility, and the ability to build trust with diverse internal and external stakeholders. Travel: Willingness to travel as needed for partner meetings, conferences, and periodic visits to offices in Toronto and New York City. Benefits Compensation: CAD $95,000–$115,000 annually.
