Senior Software Engineer

Department overview:

We have an exciting opportunity to join Sony Interactive Entertainment, PlayStation. We seek a senior full-stack web developer within the DevNet team. DevNet is our web portal used worldwide by which developers interact and supply their content onto the PlayStation platform, including games, movies, music and more. 

This senior engineer would be responsible for helping us balance the challenge of modernising a mature and fully featured application while making our industry-leading portal even better. The ideal candidate would have worked on and supported large web projects before in an agile SCRUM team, with demonstrable experience in all levels of web application development. 

The candidate should be willing to lead the development team when necessary and support the current leadership team, and also have a desire to move into a leadership position. If this is you, please apply!

What you’ll be doing:

• Develop and support a large-scale web application while contributing to its ongoing modernisation.

• Build new cloud-based services using technologies such as Go, TypeScript and AWS.

• Create high-quality front-end experiences in close collaboration with Product and UX.

• Help break down features, plan achievable iterations and contribute to technical design discussions.

• Identify opportunities to improve our products, engineering practices and development processes.

• Investigate and resolve technical issues using strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

• Participate in code reviews, pairing and knowledge-sharing across the team.

• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders across Dublin, London and other international locations.

• For the senior position, provide technical direction, support engineering decisions and mentor other team members.

What we are looking for:

• Strong professional experience in full-stack web development.

• Proficiency in at least one back-end programming language.

• Experience with front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

• Experience developing or supporting large, mature web applications.

• Familiarity with PHP and a willingness to work with an established PHP platform while helping modernise it.

• Experience with, or an interest in working with, Go and TypeScript.

• A solid understanding of web application architecture, APIs and web services.

• The ability to break down complex technical problems into clear, maintainable solutions.

• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

• Experience using Git or another version-control system.

• Experience working collaboratively in an agile engineering team.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Product, UX and DevOps colleagues.

• A flexible, pragmatic approach and a commitment to continuous improvement.

• For the senior position, experience leading technical discussions, mentoring engineers and contributing to technical direction.

It would be beneficial if you have:

• Experience developing or operating services on AWS.

• Experience with Go, TypeScript or Python.

• Proficiency in Unix or Linux-based environments.

• Experience working in Scrum, Kanban or SAFe environments.

• Previous technical leadership or mentoring experience.
