Java Software Engineer (Fraud Platform)

The Engineering team at Vonage is a group of talented engineers working on complex challenges associated with high-performance distributed systems and processing large volumes of data in real time. 

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Java development team. You will take a pivotal role in the development of a Java microservices that are critical to our Fraud Prevention Platform. This is a high-impact role at the heart of our fraud prevention capabilities, where your work will directly protect Vonage customers at scale.

What you will do:

• Work alongside some of the best fraud experts and engineers across the industry, collaborating on cutting-edge fraud prevention challenges 
• Build high-throughput, low-latency applications to meet fraud detection use cases. 
• Create scalable microservice that will help support our impressive growth 
• Write efficient and scalable code in well-tested systems 
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and functionality. 
• Propose scalable, maintainable, and cost-effective solutions. 
• Influence the evolution of our technical stack by evaluating new technologies and helping shape architectural decisions. 
• Estimate the effort required to develop and implement new features 
• Develop and execute effective testing strategies to ensure software quality and reliability. 
• Take part in on-calls for our production services. 

The Stack 

• Language – Java (primary); Python and Golang experience is a plus 
• Spring, Spring Boot 
• Cloud – AWS primarily (Bedrock, DynamoDB, RDS, EKS, S3, IAM, SQS, Lambda) 
• Monitoring and observability (Prometheus, Grafana, Kibana)
• Kafka 
• MySQL/PostgreSQL 
• Redis (time series, search) 
• Docker, Kubernetes, Helm 

What you will bring:

• An AI-native mindset, with practical experience using AI tools or agents to improve engineering productivity, code quality, and problem-solving. 
• Excellent software engineering skills in Java for backend services. 
• A strong focus on testing including unit, integration, e2e, smoke, performance tests with a customer-first mindset. 
• Experience with high throughput event-driven architectures, web services, and caching. 
• Practical experience in deploying code in a modern programming environment using tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Helm. 
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and programming languages.
