Director, Financial Systems

Summary  

GeneDx is seeking a Director - Financial Systems, reporting to the Head of Operational Finance. This position will work closely with the Head of Operational Finance with the primary responsibility of the Director – Financial Systems to lead our financial system team. The director will help to drive process improvements and strategy the Head of Operational Finance is championing across the company.   

Job Responsibilities 

• Lead, coach, and prioritize the financial systems team across ERP, HRIS, reporting/BI, close/controls, and integration platforms.  

• Own production operations, including month-end and quarter-end close support, ITSM ticket resolution, vendor escalation when needed, and coverage for critical processing windows.  

• Own access governance for ERP and HRIS: roles, permissions, segregation of duties, Delegation of Authority, and user access reviews. Designate an independent SOX/UAR approver where required.  

• Lead internal and external audit support, including control walkthroughs, evidence, UARs, and change reviews.  

• Administer the financial systems portfolio and the integrations between ERP, iPaaS, HRIS, and GRC/audit platforms; drive platform consolidation where it reduces risk or cost.  

• Own the financial systems roadmap—projects, integrations, risks, decisions, and milestones—and report status to leadership.  

• Improve system performance through configuration, workflow design, automation, and resolution of stuck approvals (for example, purchase orders and requisitions).  

• Maintain runbooks, change management, and user training covering access, incident response, monitoring, and recovery.  

• Identify and deliver automation and AI use cases in close, reporting, reconciliation, and controls, with security, SOX, and auditability guardrails. 

• Occasional travel is required (about 10%). 

People Manager 

• Manage direct report(s) over the maintenance of financial systems, data governance, business processes, data analysis, and system optimization. 

• Balance strategy, day-to-day team execution, and team resources effectively. 

• Leverage project management experience to lead a variety of financial system initiatives. 

Education, Experience, and Skills 

• Bachelor’s degree in information systems, accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience. 

• 10+ years designing, implementing, and operating ERP and related finance systems in a production, controls-driven environment. 

• Hands-on NetSuite experience, including configuration, workflows, roles and permissions, reporting, integrations, troubleshooting, and production support. 

• 5+ years leading financial systems administrators, analysts, developers, or similar roles, including coaching, performance management, and work allocation. 

• Experience supporting financial systems in a SOX-controlled public-company environment: change management, access governance, user access reviews, audit support, and segregation of duties. 

• Experience overseeing or reviewing integrations between ERP and adjacent platforms (HRIS, expense, reporting/disclosure, iPaaS), including enough technical depth to troubleshoot failures and challenge solution design. 

• Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP processes, including the financial close, P2P, payroll, and reporting. 

• Experience delivering automation or system-optimization work with a measurable improvement to close, controls, or user experience preferred. 

• Familiarity with AI-enabled finance tools (automation, anomaly detection, or reporting assistants) and with governing those tools under SOX and security requirements preferred.
