Data Center Infrastructure Technician – Tier 2 (Remote)

Who You Are

You are a dependable Data Center Infrastructure Technician with at least two years of experience in data center operations, structured cabling, telecommunications, or related field work. They are detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and skilled in rack-and-stack installations, copper and fiber cabling, remediation, documentation, and following technical drawings and runbooks. They are also comfortable with extensive travel, physically demanding work, flexible schedules, and maintaining professionalism in customer-site environments.

About The Role

We are seeking dependable Data Center Infrastructure Technicians to support installation, deployment, remediation, and maintenance of data center equipment and physical infrastructure. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in fast-paced customer environments, follows detailed instructions, takes pride in workmanship, and adapts to different client standards.

This role is the core production technician position for rack-and-stack, structured cabling, labeling, smart-hands support, cabinet cleanup, documentation, and physical-layer remediation.

The position is travel-heavy and field-based, supporting enterprise, colocation, hyperscale, AI/HPC, construction, and operational data center environments.

Must be based in the United States. This is a Remote role with 100% travel.

Other responsibilities include: 

Field Installation and Production

• Install servers, switches, storage equipment, patch panels, cable managers, support hardware, and related infrastructure.
• Perform rack-and-stack activities in standard, high-density, and AI-compute cabinets.
• Install, route, dress, label, and connect copper and fiber-optic cabling.
• Install management cables, console cables, power cords, interconnects, optics, and support components.
• Verify cable source, destination, port assignment, label, connector type, routing, slack, and bend radius.
• Work from cable schedules, rack elevations, port maps, and runbooks without needing every step explained once trained on the project standard.
• Perform cabling remediation, cleanup, defect correction, and rework.

Smart Hands, Quality, and Documentation

• Assist remote engineers and support teams with smart-hands activities.
• Replace damaged cables, labels, optics, transceivers, hardware, and field-replaceable components as directed.
• Capture serial numbers, asset tags, MAC addresses, photographs, and installation records.
• Update project trackers, completion checklists, issue logs, redline notes, and timekeeping systems.
• Inspect work for visible defects before requesting quality review.
• Report blockers, damaged equipment, missing materials, drawing conflicts, site issues, and safety concerns.
• Housekeeping and Customer-Site Conduct
• Maintain clean cabinets, pathways, workstations, staging areas, and project zones.
• Protect customer floors, cabinets, ports, optics, hardware, and pathways from damage.
• Communicate professionally with leads, superintendents, customers, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
• Complete ongoing security awareness training and comply with company policies to the requirements section
• Identify and escalate security risks to the appropriate Executive Leadership Team member and actively contribute to remediation efforts
• Other duties as assigned 

Desired skills and experience: 

• 2 or more years of experience in data center, telecommunications, low-voltage, structured cabling, network deployment, or related field work.
• Experience installing copper and fiber-optic cabling.
• Experience mounting and installing equipment in data cabinets.
• Ability to follow detailed technical instructions, cable schedules, drawings, and runbooks.
• Ability to read cable labels, rack elevations, port maps, and basic drawings.
• Strong attention to detail, workmanship, documentation, and safety.
• Ability to document completed work accurately and work independently as part of a traveling field team.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet travel, background, drug, safety, and site-access screening requirements.
• 2 or more years of experience in data center, telecommunications, low-voltage, structured cabling, network deployment, or related field work.
• Experience installing copper and fiber-optic cabling.
• Experience mounting and installing equipment in data cabinets.
• Ability to follow detailed technical instructions, cable schedules, drawings, and runbooks.
• Ability to read cable labels, rack elevations, port maps, and basic drawings.
• Strong attention to detail, workmanship, documentation, and safety.
• Ability to document completed work accurately and work independently as part of a traveling field team.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet travel, background, drug, safety, and site-access screening requirements.
• Approximately 75% to 90% nationwide travel with frequent overnight and extended assignments.
• Ability to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, deployment windows, and 10- to 12-hour shifts.
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds and assist with heavier team lifts.
• Stand and walk for extended periods; bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb ladders, and work inside cabinets.
• Perform repetitive cable installation, dressing, labeling, and equipment installation tasks.
• Work in active construction and operational data center environments while wearing required PPE.
• Rack-and-stack: Install and organize servers, switches, storage, patch panels, cable managers, and support hardware.
• Fiber and copper: Route, dress, label, connect, inspect, and protect copper and fiber-optic cabling.
• Production execution: Complete assigned quantities while protecting quality, cleanliness, and documentation.
• Drawings and schedules: Follow rack elevations, cable schedules, port maps, drawings, labels, and runbooks.
• Remediation: Correct cabling defects, clean up cabinets, replace damaged components, and support punch-list closure.
• Documentation: Capture photos, serials, asset tags, MAC addresses, issue notes, and closeout evidence.
• Smart hands: Support remote engineers with physical verification, connection changes, and device information capture.
