Data Center Infrastructure Technician – Tier 1 (Remote)

Who You Are

You are a reliable, hardworking, and safety-conscious field technician who is eager to learn data center installation and technical support. You have basic mechanical and technical aptitude, can follow instructions carefully, pay close attention to detail, and work effectively with experienced technicians and project teams.

You are comfortable with frequent travel, extended shifts, and physically demanding work, including cable routing, equipment staging, labeling, and cabinet installation. You communicate professionally, maintain organized work areas, document tasks accurately, and are committed to following safety and quality standards.

About The Role

We are seeking motivated Data Center Technician Trainees to enter a structured field-development program supporting data center infrastructure, network deployment, rack-and-stack, cabling, documentation, and smart-hands activities. Previous data center experience is helpful but not required.

This role is designed for candidates with strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, reliability, and willingness to learn. Selected candidates will work under direct supervision and must demonstrate progressive competency in safety, tools, quality, documentation, and field execution.

The work is field-heavy, travel-heavy, and performed in customer-facing data center environments, including active construction sites, white space, staging areas, loading docks, raised-floor areas, and operational facilities.

Must be based in the United States. This is a Remote role with 100% travel.

Other responsibilities include: 

• Training and Field Installation Support
• Assist experienced technicians with rack-and-stack, equipment staging, cabinet preparation, and installation activities.
• Install cable-management hardware, labels, patch cords, support components, and basic cabinet accessories under supervision.
• Assist with routing, dressing, labeling, and connecting copper and fiber-optic cables.
• Learn proper handling, cleaning, inspection, and protection of fiber-optic connectors.
• Follow drawings, rack elevations, cable schedules, checklists, runbooks, and field direction.
• Assist with equipment unpacking, inventory, material movement, and site housekeeping.
• Documentation and Quality Support
• Capture serial numbers, asset tags, MAC addresses, photographs, labels, and completion records as directed.
• Update assigned checklists, timekeeping entries, trackers, and basic work records accurately.
• Report damaged equipment, incorrect labels, missing materials, field conflicts, and unsafe conditions immediately.
• Learn project photo standards, naming conventions, cabinet closeout expectations, and issue-log discipline.
• Safety and Jobsite Conduct
• Participate in daily safety meetings, pre-task planning, site orientation, and toolbox talks.
• Use hand tools, cable tools, labelers, cleaning tools, and basic test equipment only after instruction or authorization.
• Maintain clean and organized cabinets, pathways, tools, staging areas, and workspaces.
• Demonstrate professional conduct in customer and contractor environments.
• Complete ongoing security awareness training and comply with company policies to the requirements section
• Identify and escalate security risks to the appropriate Executive Leadership Team member and actively contribute to remediation efforts
• Other duties as assigned 

Desired skills and experience: 

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, punctuality, and willingness to learn field work.
• Basic mechanical and technical aptitude.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions without repeated correction.
• Basic computer and mobile-device skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Professional communication skills and respect for customer-site conduct.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet travel, background, drug, safety, and site-access screening requirements
• Previous experience in construction, telecommunications, low-voltage, electrical, mechanical, IT support, warehousing, military service, or field service.
• Coursework or training in networking, electronics, telecommunications, or information technology.
• OSHA 10 certification.
• BICSI Installer 1 coursework or certification.
• Interest in networking, fiber optics, data centers, critical infrastructure, or AI/HPC deployments.
• Approximately 75% to 90% nationwide travel with frequent overnight and extended assignments.
• Ability to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, and 10- to 12-hour shifts when required.
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds and assist with team lifts when directed.
• Stand and walk for extended periods; bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and work inside cabinets.
• Work from ladders after proper training and authorization.
• Perform repetitive cable-routing, labeling, equipment-installation, and cleanup tasks in active construction and operational data center environments.
• Wear required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, safety vest, and safety footwear.
