Applied Science Manager

Help authors around the world publish their books, reach readers, and get help when they need it. You'll build and lead our first science team in Bengaluru and shape the assistant authors turn to for answers Basic qualifications: - Master's degree, or PhD - 3+ years of scientists or machine learning engineers management experience - 6+ years of building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application experience - Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language Preferred: - Experience building large language model (LLM)-based agents or multimodal generative AI workflows, including tool use, planning, retrieval-augmented generation, or vision-language models - Experience fine-tuning or post-training models, including with reinforcement learning - Experience with natural language processing (NLP), statistics, data mining, or large-scale retrieval, embeddings, and ranking - Experience evaluating generative AI systems, such as LLM-as-a-judge, human-calibrated audits, or online A/B testing - Experience building a new team, including hiring across several levels - Experience leading teams that deliver complex software systems to customers, including teams that use AI coding agents with safeguards such as automated tests and code review - PhD in computer science, machine learning, statistics, or a related quantitative field, or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed venues (for example ACL, EMNLP, NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, KDD) or patents Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
