Team Leader – Content Operations (WDOT) Are you passionate about leading content operations and improving data quality for one of the world’s largest research databases? About Our Team WDOT (WORKs Domain Operations Team), part of Elsevier’s Research Data Platform (RDP) organization, is responsible for the completeness, quality, and end-to-end content flow of Scopus, one of the world’s largest abstract and citation databases. The team manages the operational standards, thresholds, and governance frameworks that determine what content enters Scopus, how quickly it is processed, and how fully it is covered. This includes content ingestion, Articles-in-Press (AiP) tracking, clustering and deduplication, citation correction, retractions, and content quality diagnostics. WDOT works closely with Content Sourcing (CSD), Publisher Relations (PRM), Source Data Management (SDM), and technology teams to keep Scopus complete, accurate, and trusted by the global research community. About the role As Team Leader, you will manage a team of Process/Data Specialists responsible for the completeness, quality, and end-to-end content flow of Scopus. You will oversee operational performance across completeness standards, ingestion and production pipelines, clustering, deduplication, and quality diagnostics, ensuring targets are met and risks are escalated and resolved. You will serve as the senior escalation point for cross-team issues, strengthen documentation and resilience to reduce single points of failure, and represent WDOT’s completeness and content-flow priorities in cross-domain governance forums. Responsibilities: Lead governance for Scopus completeness standards, quality benchmarks, and coverage-gap closure. Oversee content ingestion and production workflows to ensure timely and accurate content flow into Scopus. Manage exceptions and escalations for records that fail completeness or quality checks, working with Content, CSD, PRM, SDM, and technology teams. Review Power BI dashboards and reporting metrics to ensure completeness, speed, coverage, and quality insights are accurate and actionable. Ensure discard, retraction, correction, citation-accuracy, clustering, and deduplication processes are completed compliantly and on schedule. Lead, mentor, and develop Process/Data Specialists while setting clear goals, reviewing performance, and building an inclusive team culture. Act as the main escalation point for content-flow issues, AiP delays, and completeness gaps requiring cross-functional support. Drive process improvement, resource planning, automation, AI-enabled data literacy, KPIs, and productivity initiatives for the completeness and content operations function. Proactive, assertive, and data-curious, with the confidence to surface issues early, challenge the status quo, make informed decisions with incomplete information, persist through pushback, escalate when needed, and use data to identify what the numbers may indicate next. Requirements: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in any discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience in content operations, data/content quality, or scholarly publishing. Strong understanding of bibliographic database completeness, content ingestion pipelines, metadata standards, and content-quality governance frameworks. Working knowledge of clustering, deduplication, retraction/correction, citation matching, and content ingestion or production workflows is preferred. Proficiency with Power BI or similar dashboarding tools to support metrics governance, reporting, and performance tracking. Understanding of AI technologies and data literacy to support automation, data-driven insights, and continuous improvement. Strong people leadership skills, with experience managing experienced individual contributors and guiding talent development. Ability to provide direction to stakeholders, peers, managers, and direct reports while ensuring clarity on priorities, goals, OKRs, and KPIs. Comfortable managing ambiguity, handling escalations, collaborating across functions, and partnering with senior management on strategy and execution planning.
