Software Development Engineer in Test

Job Requisition ID # 26WD100960 Autodesk is looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test with an interest in CI/CD and release engineering to help build the automated quality and software delivery systems for a new Electron-based desktop platform. In this hands-on individual contributor role, you will develop and maintain test automation, CI/CD pipelines, desktop packaging, and release validation. You will work with experienced engineers to improve developer feedback, automate repeatable release processes, troubleshoot technical issues, and help ensure that customer releases are reliable and well tested. This is a hybrid role based in our Sheffield office. Responsibilities Test automation - approximately 35%: Develop and maintain automated functional, integration, end-to-end, installer, upgrade, and regression tests. Add automated coverage for new features and improve existing tests as the product evolves CI/CD and build automation - approximately 30%: Develop and maintain continuous integration pipelines using Jenkins or similar systems. Automate build, test, packaging, artifact creation, and related engineering workflows Release qualification and automation - approximately 20%: Help automate Windows desktop packaging, code signing, publishing, installation validation, upgrade testing, and release-candidate qualification Troubleshooting and quality improvement - approximately 15%: Investigate build, test, installer, and application failures. Work with software engineers to identify root causes, reproduce issues, and implement or automate solutions Review product requirements and user stories to understand test scope, identify quality risks, and contribute to test plans Execute functional, integration, regression, and other forms of testing when automation is not yet available or when exploratory validation is appropriate. Build and maintain reusable test utilities, test data, and automation components Help create automated Windows test environments using virtual machines or other reproducible infrastructure Participate in release-readiness activities, bug bashes, defect triage, and risk assessment Monitor test and pipeline results, report failures clearly, and help distinguish product defects from test or infrastructure issues Improve flaky tests and unreliable pipeline stages to increase the quality of developer feedback Document build, test, and release procedures so they can be understood and maintained by the broader engineering team Collaborate with software engineers, product teams, and infrastructure teams to improve product quality and engineering productivity Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience Software development or test automation experience using a language such as Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, PowerShell, C#, Java, or similar Experience developing automated tests for software applications Familiarity with continuous integration and delivery concepts and tools such as Jenkins, CloudBees CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar Understanding of source control systems such as Git and common software development workflows Ability to troubleshoot common software, test automation, build, and environment problems Understanding of software testing practices including functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing Ability to work collaboratively with software engineers and other technical team members Strong written and verbal communication skills Preferred Qualifications Experience with Windows desktop applications Experience with Electron or applications built using web technologies Experience with Windows packaging technologies such as MSI, WiX, NSIS, or similar Experience working with Jenkins or CloudBees CI pipelines Familiarity with Windows code signing and software publishing workflows Experience automating install, upgrade, uninstall, and application-startup scenarios Experience using virtual machines or other automated test environments Familiarity with enterprise Windows environments, device-management systems, corporate proxies, or restricted-user configurations Experience investigating intermittent or flaky automated tests The Ideal Candidate You enjoy writing code that makes software development and testing more reliable. You are interested in understanding how software moves from a developer's change to a tested customer release, and you like working across test automation, build systems, and desktop application behavior. You are comfortable troubleshooting technical problems, learning unfamiliar tools, asking questions when needed, and working with more experienced engineers on complex issues. You look for opportunities to automate repetitive work and improve the reliability of the team's development and release processes. You also value the benefits of hybrid collaboration and are comfortable working regularly from Autodesk's Sheffield office while partnering with distributed teams across the company. We are building a new desktop platform that enables Autodesk's web-based products to deliver richer, higher-performance experiences on Windows. Forma is the first product adopting the platform, with the longer-term goal of creating reusable desktop capabilities for additional Autodesk products. You will join a new cross-functional platform team working across desktop application engineering, test automation, continuous integration and delivery, and software release. This is a hybrid working position based out of Autodesk's Sheffield office.
