The Director, Technology Strategy & Execution (IT PMO) is a key leader in the IT Project Management Office responsible for shaping the portfolio and maximizing its strategic value. This role goes beyond traditional execution metrics; while maintaining a rigorous focus on delivering projects on time, within scope, and on budget, this leader ensures that the fundamental business case is met, strategic outcomes are achieved, and long-term business value is realized. This leader will oversee a portfolio of complex IT initiatives, ensuring close alignment with organizational goals, and will be instrumental in evolving the PMO into a high-performing strategic partner that actively shapes and protects business investments. Location - Nationwide, fully remote (with preference towards candidates in ET/CT, willing and able to travel to our global HQ in Central Ohio 5-10%) Responsibilities Portfolio & Strategic Alignment : Champion the IT PMO strategy by shifting from administrative progress reporting to actively shaping the enterprise portfolio, ensuring investments directly drive strategic business value and outcomes. Predictive PMO Enablement: Champion the adoption of Planview and the integration of AI-driven insights, focusing on what will happen to drive proactive decision-making rather than merely reporting on what has already occurred. Talent Leadership & Workforce Coaching: Build a future-ready workforce by upskilling, mentoring, and coaching project managers; cultivate critical situational skills including critical thinking, relationship building, and thriving in ambiguity. Upstream Demand Shaping (“Shift Left”): Drive proactive “shift left” processes, including pre-project estimating and business-case planning, to ensure new work is rigorously scoped and aligned to strategic goals before execution begins. Empowered Truth & Accountability: Foster a high-trust culture where PMO professionals are empowered to drive accountability, speak the truth on project health, and proactively escalate risks and critical dependencies. Executive Risk & Resource Stewardship: Partner with senior leadership to assess enterprise-wide project risks, strategic dependencies, and resource constraints, facilitating timely, data-driven decisions and governance. Vendor Accountability & Value Management: Collaborate with Solution Owners and Indirect Procurement to actively manage technology investments, leveraging strategic partnerships and holding vendors accountable to maximize delivered value. Strategic Influence & Negotiation: Drive consensus and alignment across diverse, cross-functional stakeholder groups in sensitive or complex business situations while maintaining positive, collaborative relationships. Qualifications Ideally targeting individuals with 10-12+ years of experience in IT project/program management (5+ in people leadership capacity highly preferred) Proven experience managing large-scale IT programs, with a demonstrated ability to evolve a PMO from an execution-focused to a value-driven organization. Prior experience with Planview is preferred, not required. Proven experience designing and implementing front-end governance or “shift left” processes, including pre-project sizing, demand shaping, and strategic capacity management. Exceptional relationship-building and situational leadership skills, with a proven ability to challenge status-quo thinking, negotiate high-risk vendor parameters, and influence executive stakeholders. Strong leadership capabilities with experience in championing talent development, coaching, and building a high-performing, resilient team.
