Who We Are Looking For We are seeking an experienced strategy leader to join State Street’s Corporate Strategy team as a Managing Director. Reporting to the SVP, Head of Corporate Strategy, this individual will serve as a senior thought partner to the SVP, supporting the development of enterprise strategy, leading multiple high-priority strategic efforts, and advising senior executives on the firm’s most consequential choices. The role offers significant exposure to State Street’s Executive Committee and senior leadership, broad influence across the enterprise, and a strong platform for future leadership opportunities. Why This Role Is Important to Us The Corporate Strategy team supports the development of the firm’s strategic direction, translates external and internal insights into enterprise choices, and helps senior leaders align resources and execution against the highest-value opportunities. As a Managing Director, you will lead major strategic initiatives, bring an enterprise perspective to complex decisions, translate strategic work into clear actions and outcomes, and strengthen the team’s capabilities. What You Will Be Responsible For Strategic Leadership & Execution Lead high-priority strategic initiatives from problem definition through recommendation and execution planning Frame ambiguous enterprise questions, develop hypotheses, direct analysis, and ensure recommendations are fact-based, practical, and decision-ready Support and lead defined components of the firm-wide strategic planning process, translating enterprise direction into clear choices, priorities, resource implications, and measures of success Integrate business and functional perspectives while maintaining a firm-wide view of where and how State Street should compete and win Monitor market, competitive, client, and execution developments – identifying implications for the strategy and initiating focused analysis when conditions change Maintain accountability for the quality, pace, and impact of multiple projects, anticipating risks and intervening to keep work on track Executive Stakeholder Engagement Build trusted relationships with Executive Committee members and other senior leaders, engaging beyond immediate projects to inform the broader strategic agenda Facilitate executive-level problem solving, challenge assumptions constructively, and build alignment around difficult choices Translate complex analysis into clear, concise narratives and recommendations tailored to executive and Board audiences Represent the Corporate Strategy team in senior forums and advance work consistent with the SVP’s direction, as needed Team Coaching & Culture Set clear direction across projects, delegate work in line with team members’ capabilities and development goals, and hold teams accountable for outcomes Coordinate staffing and priorities across the project portfolio, balancing enterprise needs, delivery demands, and team capacity Coach and develop team members through frequent, specific feedback and meaningful stretch opportunities Support career planning and advancement, building a strong pipeline of strategic talent and future firm leaders Cultivate an inclusive, collaborative, intellectually rigorous, and high-performance team culture What We Value Enterprise perspective and sound judgment, with the ability to connect market, client, competitive, financial, operational, and organizational considerations Exceptional problem structuring, analytical rigor, synthesis, and recommendation development in ambiguous situations Executive presence and credibility, with a demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and mobilize cross-functional teams without relying on formal authority Ability to translate complex issues into concise, compelling narratives for executive and Board audiences Strong portfolio and project leadership, including prioritization, delegation, quality control, risk management, and accountability across multiple efforts Track record of introducing differentiated perspectives and converting strategic insight into actionable outcomes Commitment to talent development, inclusive leadership, collaboration, and the success of the broader team High integrity, intellectual curiosity, resilience, and agility in a dynamic environment Education & Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred 15+ years of relevant experience in corporate strategy, strategy consulting, or a related field, including significant leadership responsibility Demonstrated experience shaping enterprise strategy and leading multiple complex, cross-functional initiatives from diagnosis through executive decision and execution planning Deep understanding of financial services strongly preferred, particularly asset servicing, asset management, markets, wealth, digital assets, or data and analytics Proven experience advising senior executives, developing executive- and Board-level materials, and influencing decisions across organizational boundaries Demonstrated success leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams Salary Range: $170,000 - $267,500 Annual The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
