Practise the Forward Deployed Engineer (Linux) at Novyte Materials interview free →### What [Novyte Materials](https://novyte.ai) does * We're building an AI-powered materials discovery platform — think of it as giving research scientists a copilot that accelerates how new materials are identified, tested, and brought to production. * Our stack combines PyTorch Bayesian models, AI agents, LLM Toolchains, a FastAPI backend, and a React Tailwind frontend. * We're backed by Theia Ventures, working with real enterprise customers, real scientists and shipping software that runs on sensitive on-prem GPU infrastructure. ### Why this role exists * [Our platform](https://novyte.ai/q) is moving into enterprise deployments — multi-tenant heavily scalable environments **WITHOUT Kubernetes on cloud** and privacy focused **on-prem installations** where there's no cloud to fall back on. We need someone to own the infrastructure layer end-to-end: packaging, orchestration, security, databases, and CI/CD. * This isn't a "maintain what exists" role. You'll be building from scratch alongside a small, technically sharp team and **visiting customer labs for on-prem installations**. ### What you'll actually do * Package and deploy our full stack onto Linux-based GPU systems like the DGX Spark, including air-gapped environments with no internet access. * Visit customer labs to **install the on-premise** GPU machine on their intranet so users can access our app on the local subnet for a privacy-first deployment. * Understand how the app works and what architectures can help us best navigate the **cloud deployments** for different classes of customers (e.g. a server for freemium education customers has very different traffic patterns from a server for Paid Enterprise R&D users). * Prepare pipelines for how cloud customers vs how on-prem customers * Implement authentication infrastructure — OAuth2/JWT, RBAC, SSO integrations that pass enterprise procurement. * Own CI/CD pipelines and remove the need for SSH access to servers so the software team ships confidently and often without worrying about deployments. Ever. ### What we're looking for * Someone who has spent days installing linux on personal machines, understanding what swap or SIGTERM OOM means and understands how an app goes from running on port 8000 to being served on abc.xyz * Strong Linux & CI/CD fundamentals. The terminal should be where you feel at home. * Working knowledge of AWS and/or GCP. * Comfortable with MongoDB, PostGres and vector databases like Qdrant. It's your job to keep them load-balanced for customers as we expand. * Enough Python/FastAPI to understand the systems you're deploying. * You don't need to check every box. We care more about someone who figures things out and takes ownership than someone with a perfect résumé. ### Why join now * You'd be early enough to shape every infrastructure decision — not inheriting legacy systems. * You'll get deep exposure to AI infrastructure (serving scalable apps, agent orchestration, custom Nvidia Hardware) that's typically locked behind much larger companies. * The team is small, technically strong, and building something with genuine scientific impact. * The product is just the start. We have multiple platforms to build, spanning everything from building perfect polymers to drug discovery and even simulating physics of the chemical world to generate entirely new undiscovered materials.
