AI Database Engineer

As an AI Database Engineer, you'll own a large, mission-critical SQL Server footprint for a US B2B company and build the AI agents that automate how it's operated. This is a production-first engineering role. You'll be the primary SQL Server expert for the company's largest data environment (high availability, performance and disaster recovery) and use agentic AI to take repetitive operational work off the team, with strict production guardrails. 100% remote, full-time contracting. **What you'll do** - Act as the primary SME for a SQL Server footprint larger than the company's Postgres and Oracle environments combined. - Own high availability (AlwaysOn), performance tuning and disaster recovery. - Build and deploy AI agents (LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen or similar) for incident triage, log analysis and self-healing workflows. - Create AI-driven tools that interact with internal APIs and telemetry to eliminate repetitive manual work. - Drive systemic improvements rather than reactive fixes. **What you'll bring** - 5+ years managing mission-critical SQL Server environments, with a deep understanding of internals, locking and optimization. - Hands-on experience building AI agents or automations, and the ability to discuss the models and frameworks you used beyond API calls. - Strong Python or scripting skills. - Experience operating cloud-native databases on AWS or Azure. - C1 English or higher. **Nice to have** Previous automation work with n8n. Experience with Postgres or Oracle. **What this role is not** Not a data science or ML research role, not a prompting role, and not a reactive DBA seat.
