Software Engineer, Payments Platform ✨ Work for a global payments leader, consistently ranked one of the best companies to work for. ✨ We’re looking for a Software Engineer to help build and scale the platform behind Flywire’s global payment engine, moving hundreds of millions every day across education, healthcare, travel and B2B payments. *** This role is hybrid/office based in Valencia, Spain . This is crucial. We also welcome applications from candidates based in other cities in Spain who are open to relocating to Valencia. *** This is a role for someone with around 2 years ’ software engineering experience who wants to continue building strong technical foundations while working on real, high impact systems. You’ll be working on business critical technology that directly affects payment speed, reliability and client experience. The role offers the opportunity to learn across backend, full stack, cloud, platform engineering and AI enabled development while contributing to systems used by clients across multiple industries. Flywire is actively adopting AI across the business, including within Engineering. This role is suited to someone who is curious about modern development practices, interested in how AI can improve engineering effectiveness and keen to keep learning as technology evolves. Role Focus Depending on final team placement, the role may lean backend or full stack, so we are open to candidates with: backend experience full stack experience experience in other programming languages strong software engineering fundamentals the ability to learn new technologies quickly curiosity around AI, LLMs and agentic development tools You’ll work with modern engineering teams across Java, Ruby, React, AWS, distributed systems, LLMs and agentic AI tools. You do not need prior experience with this exact stack. We’re open to engineers from other programming backgrounds who have strong fundamentals and are comfortable learning new tools and technologies. What You’ll Do Build, maintain and improve services that support high volume payment systems Write clean, testable and maintainable code Contribute to new features and improve existing functionality Support the reliability, performance and security of our platform Investigate technical issues and help resolve production problems Use data, product context and technical judgement to make good engineering decisions Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, QA, SRE and Engineers across global teams Learn from experienced engineers while contributing to good engineering practices within the team Explore how AI enabled tools can support engineering productivity, quality and problem solving What we’re looking for Around 2 years’ experience in software or application development Strong software engineering fundamentals, ideally with experience in backend or full stack development Experience building or working with APIs, web services or REST based architecture Good understanding of object oriented design or similar programming principles Some exposure to relational databases Interest in scalable systems, cloud platforms and reliability Ability to learn new languages, frameworks and tools Curiosity around AI adoption, LLMs and modern engineering workflows Comfortable working in a cross functional product engineering environment Strong communication skills and fluent English Product minded approach, with an interest in how engineering decisions impact customers and the business FinTech or payments experience is desirable but not required Based in Valencia or open to relocating to Valencia from another city in Spain Tech stack you’ll work with Backend : Java, Ruby Frontend : React, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3 Databases & systems : Linux, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Sidekiq, AMQP, Elasticsearch Cloud : AWS Version control & CI/CD : GitLab Agentic AI : Claude Code, Cursor, LLMs and AI enabled development workflows We Offer: Competitive compensation Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) Flying Start - Our immersive Global Induction Program Work with brilliant people that will keep you on your toes, learn more about their journeys by checking out #InsideFlywire on social media Dynamic & Global Team (we have been collaborating virtually for years!)
