DSS Architecture Principal Architect

Step into the role of a Principal Architect at JPMorganChase and become a driving force behind the evolution of the firm's most critical infrastructure and data platforms. As a Principal Architect at JPMorganChase within Infrastructure Platforms - Data & Specialty Services (DSS), you provide technical leadership for multiple product lines, platforms, or strategic initiatives. You partner with peer Principal Architects on the development of target-state architecture and multi-year roadmaps across a diverse estate that includes infrastructure data platforms, mainframe and midrange compute, payments infrastructure, electronic trading services, enterprise data services, and digital workflows. You work directly with engineers and product teams to make architectural intent practical: delivering reusable patterns, modernizing complex estates, and ensuring that solutions are secure, resilient, scalable, and operationally ready. You bring a clear technical point of view while using evidence, delivery context, and collaboration to make decisions. You will help DSS simplify and modernize its technology landscape, increase reuse of strategic IP platforms and services, strengthen architecture accountability, and accelerate responsible adoption of AI-enabled engineering practices. Job Responsibilities Advise cross-functional teams on technology selection and architecture trade-offs, balancing delivery speed, resiliency, security, operational stability, cost, maintainability, and strategic alignment. Lead architecture for complex hybrid estates, including cloud, on-premises, SaaS, mainframe, midrange, distributed compute, data, workflow, observability, automation, and integration technologies as relevant to the assigned scope. Support the development of target-state architecture, capability maps, reference architectures, and multi-year modernization roadmaps for assigned DSS product lines, platforms, or strategic initiatives. Create and maintain reusable architecture patterns, reference implementations, design guidance, and machine-readable architecture artefacts that make secure and compliant delivery easier for engineering teams. Partner with other Principal Architects and architecture governance teams to improve and mature architecture governance processes, including RFCs, ADRs, controls traceability, and auditable decision records. Apply enterprise-authorized AI capabilities to accelerate architecture analysis, roadmap development, impact assessment, and engineering practices, with human-in-the-loop validation, appropriate handling of sensitive data, and effective resiliency, security, and auditability controls. Remain hands-on in technical delivery, including architecture modeling of platforms and technical products; develop, review, and debug high-quality production code, prototypes, infrastructure definitions, or automation. Mentor architects and senior engineers, and communicate technical strategy and decisions effectively to senior leaders and executives. Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills Formal training or certification on architecture concepts and 10+ years applied experience. Deep knowledge of software, applications, and architecture across one or more relevant disciplines, such as infrastructure platforms, cloud and hybrid infrastructure, distributed systems, data and integration architecture, mainframe or midrange platforms, network and compute, observability, resilience engineering, or enterprise workflow platforms. Hands-on experience delivering system design, application or platform development, testing, automation, and operational stability in complex, production environments. Expertise in one or more programming languages. Expertise in architecture modeling for platforms and technical products. Demonstrated experience developing target-state architecture and multi-year technology roadmaps, including modernization, migration, technical-debt reduction, and legacy coexistence. Experience making and documenting complex architecture decisions, including trade-offs across availability, performance, security, cost, maintainability, and regulatory or control requirements, with a strong risk and controls mindset covering secure-by-design practices, least privilege, cyber and operational resiliency, disaster recovery, auditability, data governance, and production readiness. Experience applying expertise and new methods to determine solutions for complex architecture problems in one or more technical disciplines. Experience leading a product, platform, or significant technology initiative as a product owner, product manager, technical lead, or architect. Proven ability to influence across a matrixed organization, build alignment among senior stakeholders, and communicate technical strategy clearly to both engineering teams and executives. Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills Experience architecting or modernizing mission-critical platforms supporting infrastructure services, financial transaction processing, payments, enterprise data, electronic trading, or high-volume digital workflows. Hands-on experience with AWS and infrastructure as code using Terraform. Experience with platform engineering, self-service capabilities, service catalogs, reusable infrastructure patterns, and API or event-driven integration. Experience with infrastructure inventory, metadata, data quality, lineage, data contracts, data mesh or data-product practices, and analytical or operational data platforms. Hands-on experience designing agentic AI capabilities, including reusable agent skills, Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations, context engineering, and related tools and controls.
