This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer based in Australia. As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will help design, build, and scale high-performance cloud infrastructure supporting demanding AI workloads and large-scale computing environments. You will take ownership of production-grade OpenStack and Kubernetes platforms, ensuring they deliver exceptional performance, scalability, security, and reliability. Working in a fast-growing, technology-driven environment, you will tackle complex infrastructure challenges and contribute to the evolution of next-generation cloud services. You will drive automation, infrastructure-as-code, and GitOps practices to streamline operations and improve deployment efficiency. Collaborating with platform, DevOps, AI, product, and support teams, you will translate technical and customer requirements into robust infrastructure solutions. This role offers significant autonomy, technical ownership, and the opportunity to make a measurable impact on business-critical systems. It is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who thrives on solving challenging problems and building resilient infrastructure at scale. Accountabilities: Platform Design and Ownership Design, deploy, operate, and continuously improve production OpenStack and Kubernetes environments. Ensure infrastructure platforms remain scalable, resilient, and performant for demanding GPU workloads and compute-intensive applications. Take end-to-end ownership of infrastructure systems, from architecture and implementation to ongoing operations and optimization. Infrastructure Automation and Engineering Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code solutions and implement GitOps practices to improve consistency and operational efficiency. Automate provisioning, deployment, configuration, and routine operational workflows. Improve infrastructure delivery processes through effective CI/CD pipelines and Git-based development workflows. Performance, Monitoring, and Reliability Optimize Kubernetes workload scheduling, including GPU workloads, using Kubernetes capabilities and NVIDIA tooling. Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to maintain platform health and visibility. Lead incident response, troubleshoot complex infrastructure and performance issues, and implement improvements to prevent recurring problems. Security and Infrastructure Architecture Maintain robust security controls across infrastructure, networking, and container environments. Implement role-based access control (RBAC), network policies, and tenant isolation mechanisms. Contribute to architectural decisions that strengthen security, efficiency, and long-term platform scalability. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with platform engineering, DevOps, AI, product, and support teams to align infrastructure capabilities with technical and customer requirements. Identify opportunities to simplify systems, improve operational processes, and support the platform's continued growth. Exercise independent technical judgment and take ownership of solutions in a fast-paced, evolving environment. Requirements Extensive hands-on experience operating OpenStack in production environments, with a strong understanding of cloud infrastructure architecture and operations. Proven experience managing Kubernetes infrastructure at scale, ideally in bare-metal or private cloud environments. Strong knowledge of Linux systems, networking fundamentals, and storage technologies. Practical experience with infrastructure automation, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based workflows. Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure, networking, and performance issues in production environments. Understanding of infrastructure reliability, monitoring, incident management, security controls, and operational best practices. Experience implementing or maintaining access controls, network policies, and tenant isolation across cloud and container platforms. A strong sense of ownership, with the ability to work independently, make sound technical decisions, and manage complex projects without extensive supervision. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to design systems that remain efficient, reliable, and maintainable as workloads and infrastructure scale. Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering and product teams. Experience integrating Kubernetes with OpenStack, working with GPU infrastructure or high-performance computing (HPC), or contributing to open-source projects is an advantage but not essential. Familiarity with advanced networking technologies and broader cloud-native ecosystems is beneficial. Ability to work remotely from Germany and meet any applicable employment and work authorization requirements for the position. Benefits Competitive compensation: Attractive salary package, with a discretionary bonus. Paid time off: 25 days of annual leave, plus public holidays. Remote work: Fully remote working arrangements, offering flexibility in your work environment. Technical ownership: Significant autonomy to design, operate, and improve business-critical infrastructure. Complex engineering challenges: The opportunity to work on high-performance cloud infrastructure supporting demanding AI and GPU workloads. Professional growth: Clear opportunities for career progression as the organization and its infrastructure capabilities expand. Collaborative environment: Work alongside multidisciplinary teams tackling challenging problems in cloud computing, AI infrastructure, and platform engineering. Meaningful impact: Directly influence platform performance, reliability, scalability, and customer experience.
