Role Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Junior Automation Engineer to join our Platform team. In this role, you will help build, maintain, and scale the internal tools that power our engineering ecosystem. Because our software operates as a Medical Device (SaMD), your work will directly bridge the gap between rapid software innovation and rigorous FDA/regulatory compliance.
You will partner closely with Software Engineering, QA, and Regulatory teams to automate testing, streamline deployments, and generate the traceability artifacts required in a modern healthcare technology environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot integrations between tools like Jira, GitHub, Ketryx etc. You will ensure that code changes, pull requests, issue tracking, and automated test results flow seamlessly across systems to maintain an unbroken chain of traceability.
- Leverage integrated tools to automate the generation of compliance documentation, test reports, and traceability matrices required for FDA and ISO 13485 audits, minimizing manual overhead for engineers.
- Write and maintain Python and shell scripts to create internal developer tools that improve engineering velocity, reduce manual toil, and enforce code quality.
- Work alongside QA, DevOps, and Product engineers to troubleshoot build failures, optimize local development environments, and clarify expected software behaviors.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 1–3 years of hands-on experience (including strong internships or co-ops) in software development, automation, test engineering, or DevOps.
- Proficiency in Python or other programming languages and at least one shell scripting language (Bash, PowerShell).
- Hands-on experience with Git/GitHub, issue tracking systems (Jira), and an understanding of continuous integration/continuous deployment concepts.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to debug pipeline failures, API integration issues, and optimize build times.
- Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to document processes clearly for technical and regulatory audiences.
Nice to Have
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude) to accelerate coding, debugging, and test generation. Familiarity with integrating LLM APIs into internal automation workflows is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with Software as a Medical Device (SaMD), ALM/QMS tools (like Ketryx, Greenlight Guru, or Jama), HIPAA, or working within FDA/ISO 13485 quality systems.
- Experience working with RESTful APIs or Webhooks to connect third-party SaaS applications.
- Basic knowledge of AWS (or similar cloud providers) and container technologies like Docker.
A reasonable estimate of the base salary compensation range is $110,000 to $150,000, bonus, and equity.
