Director, IT Core Infrastructure

Role Overview 

The Director, IT Core Infrastructure is a senior technology leader responsible for the strategy, transformation, delivery, and operations of SIE’s global core infrastructure capabilities. The role leads a broad, globally distributed organization spanning internal networks and client access, core network connectivity across physical sites, cloud and on-premise infrastructure, and enterprise endpoint management across mobile, Linux, Windows, and Mac platforms.

Reporting to the Senior Director of IT, this role leads through multiple managers and is accountable for the performance, security, scalability, reliability, resilience, and user experience of Core Infrastructure services. The Director will translate enterprise strategy into clear priorities, investment decisions, and multi-year roadmaps while balancing transformation, operational performance, technical debt, risk, and cost.

This leader will drive the evolution of Core Infrastructure toward highly automated, software defined, self-service, and increasingly autonomous operating models. The role requires the technical credibility to lead across infrastructure disciplines and the breadth to shape technology strategy, lead transformation, influence across organizational boundaries, and take on expanded responsibilities as business needs evolve. 

 
What you'll be doing:

Functional Leadership & Accountability 

• Lead the Core Infrastructure organization across multiple teams and disciplines, providing clear direction, priorities, and accountability for outcomes.
• Hold end-to-end accountability for service performance, including availability, reliability, security, resilience, and user experience.
• Set priorities and make decisions across the Core Infrastructure portfolio, balancing operational needs, transformation, risk, technical debt, and investment.
• Establish clear accountability across teams while empowering leaders to independently own their services and outcomes.

 
Infrastructure Strategy & Transformation 

• Define and execute a Core Infrastructure strategy and multi-year roadmap aligned with enterprise technology strategy and business priorities.
• Lead the evolution toward highly automated, software defined, self-service, and increasingly autonomous infrastructure services.
• Drive adoption of infrastructure as code, observability, AI enabled operations, and modern engineering practices to improve reliability, scalability, speed, and efficiency.
• Simplify and standardize technology and service models, reducing complexity and improving the ability to operate globally at scale.
• Partner with Information Security, Service & Support, and other technology organizations to develop integrated solutions and influence broader enterprise technology strategy.

 
Service Delivery & Operational Excellence 

• Establish strong operational practices across service management, incident response, change management, lifecycle management, capacity, observability, and resilience.
• Ensure infrastructure services meet performance, security, availability, resilience, business continuity, and regulatory requirements.
• Drive measurable improvements in reliability, employee experience, engineering productivity, automation, cost efficiency, and speed of delivery.
• Use operational data and service performance measures to identify systemic issues, prioritize improvements, guide investment, and reduce manual operational effort.

 
Enterprise & Cross Functional Leadership 

• Serve as a trusted advisor to senior technology and business leaders on infrastructure strategy, investments, risks, and opportunities.
• Lead complex enterprise initiatives that span multiple technology organizations and require alignment across priorities, ownership boundaries, and stakeholders.
• Represent Core Infrastructure in enterprise planning, architecture, investment, risk, and transformation discussions, bringing a perspective beyond the immediate needs of the function.
• Communicate complex technology decisions and tradeoffs clearly to executive audiences and build strong partnerships across technology and business organizations.

 
People Leadership & Organizational Development 

• Lead, coach, and develop a global organization of managers, architects, and senior engineers.
• Build a high performing leadership team with clear accountability, strong ownership, and the ability to operate independently.
• Develop leaders capable of owning major technology domains and enterprise outcomes, creating organizational depth and succession readiness.
• Continually evolve organizational structure, skills, roles, and sourcing models to support changing business and technology needs.
• Build a culture centered on engineering excellence, accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and measurable outcomes.

 
Financial, Portfolio & Resource Management 

• Own financial planning, forecasting, investment prioritization, and resource allocation across the Core Infrastructure portfolio.
• Make deliberate investment tradeoffs across transformation, lifecycle, technical debt, resilience, security, operational needs, and emerging capabilities.
• Drive sustainable cost optimization and develop clear business cases for significant technology investments.
• Manage strategic vendors, partners, and sourcing models to ensure performance, value, innovation, and alignment with SIE priorities.

 
Governance, Risk & Continuous Improvement 

• Establish appropriate governance, standards, and policies across Core Infrastructure while avoiding unnecessary process and operational overhead.
• Identify, communicate, and mitigate risks related to availability, security, scalability, lifecycle, capacity, and resilience.
• Establish and monitor meaningful service level objectives, availability targets, operational health measures, and business outcome metrics.
• Use data to drive accountability, investment decisions, and continuous improvement.
• Challenge existing processes and operating models where they create unnecessary complexity or limit speed, automation, or scalability.
• Contribute to the continued evolution of the broader IT operating model and technology organization.

 
What we're looking for:

• 12+ years of experience across infrastructure engineering, enterprise technology, or related technology disciplines.
• 5+ years of experience managing managers and leading large, globally distributed technology teams.
• Broad understanding of enterprise infrastructure and technology services, with deep expertise in one or more relevant domains and the ability to lead effectively across disciplines.
• Proven experience operating and evolving large scale, business critical enterprise technology environments.
• Demonstrated experience leading significant technology, organizational, or operating model transformation across multiple teams or domains.
• Experience developing managers and senior technical leaders and building leadership depth within an organization.
• Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead initiatives beyond direct organizational ownership in complex, matrixed organizations.
• Experience building and executing multi-year strategies, roadmaps, investment plans, and operating models.
• Strong financial and commercial acumen, including investment prioritization, vendor strategy, and cost optimization.
• Ability to translate complex technology topics into clear business implications, decisions, and outcomes for executive audiences.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location. 

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below. 

Base: €109,400 - €164,000 + Bonus & Benefits.
