Senior Software Engineer - Data Platform

About the Role We are looking for a Senior Engineer to help design, build, and operate Atlassian's foundational data platform, driving its architectural evolution and operational excellence. Our platform powers the data behind critical experiences across the company—from rich in-product analytics in Jira, JSM, and Confluence, to dedicated solutions like Atlassian Analytics, the Teamwork Graph (TWG), and AI-native capabilities like Rovo. In this high-impact role, your engineering decisions will directly shape how hundreds of thousands of organizations explore, understand, and act on their data. Design, build and operate core components of Atlassian's data platform across streaming ingestion (Flink) and MPP query/serving (StarRocks), with high ownership from technical design to launch. Deliver solutions that are used by other teams and products across Atlassian. Own operational excellence for high-scale data platform systems in production—reliability, performance tuning, cost, and data quality/observability. Tackle complex architecture challenges, apply architectural standards, and drive them on new projects. Lead code reviews and documentation, and take on complex bug fixes, especially on high-risk problems. Set the standard for thorough, meaningful code reviews. Partner across engineering teams to contribute to initiatives spanning multiple projects. Mentor more junior members of the team. This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity. Core Qualifications 6+ years in software engineering with strong distributed-systems / data-engineering depth. Hands-on experience in data platform systems : streaming/ingestion ( Flink ; Spark acceptable) and/or MPP query engines ( StarRocks / Trino / Apache Pinot / Apache Doris ). Experience with operational management of high-scale data platform systems (production reliability, performance tuning, data quality/observability). Strong coding (Java/Scala/Python) and cloud data infrastructure (GCP/AWS). Open-source contributions to relevant projects are a strong positive.
