This is an exciting opportunity to own the overall fraud strategy at a fast-growing fintech, taking leadership of a critical area of risk and a key driver of Zilch’s commercial performance. Fraud is a highly visible and strategically important P&L item, with significant senior scrutiny, and this role will play a central part in shaping how Zilch protects the business while continuing to deliver a great experience for genuine customers. As Fraud Strategy Manager, you will be responsible for designing and evolving Zilch’s fraud strategy across both application fraud and in-life fraud. You’ll lead the development of strategies that identify, prevent, and respond to fraud risk at scale, ensuring controls are effective, data-driven, and commercially balanced. The role sits at the intersection of Risk, Fraud Operations, Product, Engineering, Data, and Compliance. You’ll work closely with these teams to turn insight into action, developing measures that protect Zilch from fraud while keeping customer journeys as smooth and proportionate as possible. You will also support the delivery of key financial crime compliance strategies, including KYC, PEP, and sanctions controls. While the underlying requirements will be owned by the Compliance team, this role will be responsible for developing the strategies that deliver against those requirements in the most efficient and effective way. With high ownership, senior visibility, and direct impact on both risk performance and profitability, this role offers a strong platform to lead an important agenda within Zilch’s broader risk strategy. Key responsibilities. Own and evolve Zilch’s fraud strategy across application fraud and in-life fraud, balancing protection, customer experience, and commercial performance Design, optimise, and monitor fraud controls across the customer lifecycle, ensuring strategies are effective, scalable, and proportionate Develop a deep understanding of fraud trends, customer behaviour, and operational outcomes, using this insight to inform strategy and prioritisation Partner closely with Fraud Operations to understand fraud typologies, operational pain points, manual review outcomes, and opportunities for improvement Work with Product, Engineering, and Data teams to develop and implement fraud prevention measures, decisioning rules, and automated controls Monitor fraud performance and key metrics, identifying emerging risks and taking action to improve outcomes Optimise the balance between fraud prevention and customer journey, reducing unnecessary friction for genuine customers wherever possible Own the strategy design and delivery of key compliance controls, including KYC, PEP, and sanctions screening, in line with requirements set by the Compliance team Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of financial crime controls through better data, rules, automation, and process design Drive targeted initiatives and projects, ensuring clear delivery, strong governance, and measurable impact Provide clear, data-driven insight and recommendations to stakeholders, supporting fraud, risk, operational, and compliance decisions Maintain strong documentation and governance across fraud and financial crime strategies, ensuring controls are well understood and appropriately managed What we’re looking for. Strong experience in fraud strategy, fraud risk, financial crime, or customer risk management, ideally within fintech, payments, banking, or consumer lending Good understanding of application fraud and in-life fraud risks, controls, and customer lifecycle strategies Experience designing or optimising fraud rules, decisioning strategies, controls, or operational processes Strong analytical capability, with the ability to translate data into clear decisions and practical action Experience working closely with operational and technical teams to deliver fraud prevention or financial crime initiatives Good understanding of KYC, PEP, sanctions, or financial crime control frameworks Comfortable balancing risk prevention with customer experience and commercial outcomes Able to operate with ownership in a fast-paced, data-driven environment Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and explain complex issues clearly Hands-on, curious, and proactive, with a track record of identifying risks and driving improvements Benefits.
