Robotics Wireless & Network Engineer Intern

RIVR, part of Amazon is a robotics company pioneering Physical AI through real-world doorstep delivery. Founded in 2024 as an ETH Zurich spin-off, RIVR, part of Amazon developed wheeled-legged robots designed to operate in complex, unstructured environments such as stairs, gates, doors, and uneven urban terrain. Job Description At RIVR, we build autonomous delivery robots that operate in the field, and the network is what makes remote supervision and data exchange possible, from the switched network inside the robot, through 4G/5G, Wi-Fi and satellite links, to the cloud stack. As a Robotics Wireless & Network Engineer Intern, you'll sit between the hardware and software teams as a hands-on engineer across that entire path, configuring and segmenting networks, characterizing wireless links, building the monitoring that keeps the fleet visible, and getting to the bottom of connectivity issues What you’ll be doing Network engineering: Configure and improve the robot's internal network (VLAN, NTP/PTP time sync, DHCP/DNS). Real-time traffic: Make sure ROS2/DDS, WebRTC and MQTT flows behave correctly on the network. Wireless and RF performance: Characterize how the cellular, Wi-Fi and satellite links behave in the real world (coverage, throughput, latency under load, antenna placement and A/B system comparisons). Troubleshooting and documentation: Take the first pass on connectivity issues, work through them with packet captures and logs, and keep network diagrams, configuration baselines and technical docs up to date. What you must have BSc or higher in Telecommunications Engineering, Telematics Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or Computer Science. Solid networking fundamentals across all TCP/IP stack. Hands-on experience (either through coursework, previous internships, or other projects) with networking, robotics or drones. Comfortable working on Linux and Git. Scripting in Python/Golang and basic knowledge in C++ Strong problem-solving skills, and eagerness to learn and contribute on complex, real- world systems in a collaborative team. Get some bonus points Exposure to RF concepts: link budgets, filters, antennas, VSWR, or hands-on time with a VNA or spectrum analyzer. ROS2 or any experience with robots and sensors. Familiarity with AWS and network configuration on embedded Linux. Clear writing and the instinct to hand over what you learned.
