Fractional Chief Medical Officer — Project Tricorder We're looking for a clinician who has served as a military medic to be Tricorder's clinical lead and the medical name behind the product. You'll shape clinical workflows, protect patient safety, help to roadmap clinical device regulation, giving the product credibility with clinicians, defence customers and investors. About Project Tricorder - https://www.tricorder-systems.com/ Most healthcare technology assumes a hospital: reliable power, connectivity and a clinician at a desk. But the moments that decide outcomes often happen elsewhere: at the point of injury, in transit, in remote and contested environments, and in the critical minutes before a patient reaches a ward. Tricorder is building deployable clinical infrastructure for that world. It's a rugged, self-contained hardware and software platform that lets clinical teams capture, monitor and act on patient data anywhere, even when the network or the grid can't be relied on. It's a dual-use venture serving defence medical first and civilian pre-hospital and humanitarian care next. Tricorder is being built inside Founders Factory's venture studio, with dedicated pre-seed investment and a six-month build programme. The founder, a former British Army officer, is in place, the founding engineer is incoming, and a few more team hires are underway. What you'll do You'll be Tricorder's senior clinical voice: the person who makes sure what we build works for a medic at the point of injury and keeps patients safe. Shape clinical workflows: map how casualties are assessed, treated, handed over and evacuated, from the point of injury through to definitive care. Turn that into product requirements, and test prototypes against real resuscitation and trauma scenarios. Protect patient safety: lead clinical risk management and act as (or help appoint) the Clinical Safety Officer under the NHS DCB0129 standard. Advise on the evidence needed for the medical device and regulatory pathway. Be the medical face of the product: put your clinical name to Tricorder. Represent it to defence medical services, NHS and ambulance trusts, humanitarian organisations and investors, and help the founder carry the clinical story in pitches and pilots. Open doors: use your network across defence medicine, the NHS and humanitarian response to secure clinical pilots, user testing and early design partners. Guide clinical evidence: help design pilots and early studies, and review clinical claims, protocols and terminology across the product and its AI features. Advise the team: be a sounding board for the founder and build team on clinical priorities. Help with clinical hiring as the company grows. Who you are Must-haves You've served as a military medic or doctor. This is non-negotiable. You know operational medicine first-hand, from point-of-injury care to the field hospital. A GMC-registered doctor with deep experience in resuscitation, trauma or emergency surgery, emergency medicine, or pre-hospital care. Still active clinically, whether as a reservist, in the NHS, or in humanitarian or disaster response. You're credible with senior defence medical leaders, NHS clinicians and investors, and comfortable being the named clinical lead for a product. You can turn clinical reality into clear, practical product decisions, and you're happy working with engineers and designers at startup pace. Nice to have Experience advising or working with medtech or health-tech startups, ideally as a CMO, clinical lead or advisor. Clinical Safety Officer training (DCB0129/DCB0160), or experience with medical device regulation (UKCA/CE, ISO 14971). Leadership roles in defence medical services, such as a clinical lead, medical director or command role. Experience with mass-casualty planning, deployed hospital care, or global health systems. Familiarity with clinical AI, data standards or digital health interoperability. Probably not the right fit if You haven't served in a military medical role. You're looking for a passive advisory title without hands-on involvement in the product. Find Jobs in United Kingdom on Arbeitnow
